COELACANTH - Pleasance Attic, Edinburgh Festival
The Clore Leadership Programme 2005 as one of only 27 Fellows in the first year of this
groundbreaking project. The Clore Fellows (funded by the Arts Council, the Clore Duffield
Foundation and Paul Hamlyn) have the opportunity to gain senior leadership skills, spend
time on secondment to an institution outside their own artform, and research an area of
expertise which contributes to the debate on cultural leadership and the future of the arts.
Erica’s mentor for the year was Sir Richard Eyre and she spent three months at Tate
Britain.
Saudi Arabia: Erica is also involved with a remarkable endeavour with young women in Saudi Arabia. She was invited to visit Jeddah in February 2004 and worked with a young director there to begin a storytelling performance project with ancient Bedouin stories.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR of SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE: 1998-2000: the Playhouse was nominated in 2000 for the Peter Brook Empty Space Award which highly commended her productions of THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP, THE GLASS SLIPPER & WINTER’S TALE.

She was educated at Oxford where she studied French and Philosophy, and began a PhD in Philosophy before training as a director. She trained at Bristol Old Vic, with Phillippe Gaulier in Paris and at the National Theatre Studio where she was awarded the John S Cohen Bursary. She teaches regularly at the NT studio and at the Actor’s Centre.
