Erica is Chief Executive of Northern Stage in Newcastle where she has also directed Dennis Potter’s SON OF MAN, Matt Cameron’s RUBY MOON and most recently a stage adaptation of OUR FRIENDS IN THE NORTH by Peter Flannery which has also been on a spring tour, and a new adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL last Christmas. She will also direct HANSEL AND GRETAL there for Christmas 2008.
Her recent freelance work includes THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (Oxford Playhouse); COELACANTH (Pleasance Attic, Edinburgh) and THE RUCKERT LIEDER PROJECT in conjunction with Streetwise Opera, three Homeless Centres in Nottingham, Viva Orchestra and Magdala Opera.
She was Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill until the end of 2004 and then went onto The Clore Leadership Programme as one of only 27 Fellows in the first year of this groundbreaking project.
She was nominated for an Evening Standard Award for her production of TEAR FROM A GLASS EYE at the Gate Theatre, and the Southwark Playhouse, where she was Artistic Director from 1998-2000, was nominated in 2000 for the Peter Brook Empty Space Award which highly commended her productions of THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP, THE GLASS SLIPPER & WINTER’S TALE.
Other freelance productions include SHADOW OF A BOY in the Lyttelton Loft as part of the Royal National Theatre’s ‘Transformations’ project and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY at Sheffield Crucible.
