Matthew trained at the Glasgow School of Art in textile design and won various awards including ‘The Royal Society of Arts Young Designer’, two awards for excellence in design from the Japanese Fashion Foundation and a traveling bursary to Milan as one of the best graduates of the year. After several years working as a textile designer, both freelance and as senior designer with Stoddard Sekers Ltd, he changed career to Theatre Design with the help of an Arts Council Trainee bursary at the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich where productions included FOREIGN LANDS, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, UNDER MILK WOOD, SONG OF THE SEA, THE UNEXPECTED GUEST and SEASCAPE, a cycle of four plays for special needs schools. |
